GM Ignition Switch Failure
Cleveland Defective Product Attorneys
General Motors has recalled more than 9.4 million cars due to faulty ignition switches. The defective product causes the key to move from the “on” position to the “off” position resulting in loss of engine, braking and steering power. This can happen entirely without warning. Some reports indicate that this occurs when a car goes over a hard bump, or if the steering column or ignition switch is suddenly jolted or jarred, or if the weight of the key ring is significant and causes the ignition switch to loosen over time. When this happens, the driver has no control of the car and is likely to be involved in an accident that may also involve other vehicles. The airbags fail to deploy and the occupants of the car may suffer serious, if not fatal injuries.
