A Year of Legal Success Driven by Clients, Co-Counsel, and Our Team
2025 has been a year of success, growth, and new beginnings, and none of it would have been possible without our talented attorneys, dedicated staff, trusted co-counsel, and most importantly, our clients, who have put their faith in us. Together, we achieved outstanding results.
So far this year, our verdicts have totaled more than $32.7 million, and our settlements totaled another $105 million. In addition, we secured an $850 million judgment against Iran from a federal court in Washington, D.C. on behalf of U.S. soldiers injured and killed in Iraq by terrorist attacks supported by Iran — on top of the nearly $1 billion judgment we obtained last year.
Working With Co-Counsel to Maximize Client Results
We also want to thank our co-counsel for their support. They put their faith and trust in our firm to do whatever it takes to maximize our clients’ results. In 2025, we paid out more than $9 million in co-counsel fees, a testament to the strong relationships and collaboration that make these outcomes possible.
Significant Verdicts and Settlements Holding Wrongdoers Accountable
Through our recent results, we made our communities safer by holding wrongdoers accountable. This year we obtained:
- An $11.75 million settlement for a family after a carbon monoxide leak– caused by poor maintenance in their apartment building hospitalized a mother and her twins and tragically killed their grandmother.
- A $17.675 million nursing home verdict after a resident died following a 12-hour delay in receiving medical treatment caused by understaffing at the nursing home.
- An appellate win, upholding a $7 million verdict for a widow after her husband was sent home from the ER and died two days later from a preventable gastrointestinal bleed.
Supporting the Legal Community Beyond Our Own Cases
Our commitment to service extends beyond the courtroom. Through the Spangenberg Litigation Institute, we shared lessons learned from our cases with fellow plaintiff attorneys. We believe that when Ohio plaintiff lawyers succeed, we make our community stronger and safer.
Since 2017, the Institute has generated more than $56,000 in proceeds for The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland. And last year, our firm’s $100,000 match helped raise a total of $300,761 for Legal Aid’s vital work in expanding access to justice.
Leadership Roles Across Ohio’s Legal Community
We’re also proud of the leadership our partners are showing across Ohio’s legal community. This year Jeremy Tor was named president of the Federal Bar Association, Northern District of Ohio Chapter; Nicholas A. DiCello became president of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association; and Dustin Herman was named president of the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys. Their commitment to strengthening our profession reflects the same values that guide our firm every day.
Firm Growth and the Future of Spangenberg
We’re also proud of our growth throughout the year and are excited to welcome Michael P. Lewis, who’s been with Spangenberg since 2020, as the firm’s newest partner. We’re also thrilled to welcome Joseph Flannery and Abigail Hoover as associate attorneys and the future of the firm.
Finally, we’d like to recognize our dedicated staff that’s committed to the success of our firm and clients. Across our team of 16, they have dedicated more than 200 collective years at Spangenberg. We are proud of their work, dedication, and loyalty to the firm and our clients’ cases.
Looking Ahead to 2026 and Spangenberg’s 80th Anniversary
Here’s to the progress we made in 2025 and to what’s ahead. We’re entering 2026—our firm’s 80th anniversary—with the same commitment, passion, and teamwork that have defined our firm for more than seven decades.
