Stryker LFIT V40 Femoral Heads
Earlier this year, Stryker notified physicians of the potential dangers their V40 femoral heads used in hip implants pose to their patients. Specifically, the Stryker LFIT V40 with heads made of cobalt chromium lead to severe complications, including metal poisoning, fractures, separation of the head from the cup, loss of function and a need for premature revision surgeries as a result. Use of ceramic heads effectively reduced these complications without the presence of metal released through taper fretting and crevice corrosion. The V40 metal heads have also been used with the Rejuvenate and ABG II stems.
Stryker has received higher than expected complaints of taper lock failure to specific lots of the following certain sizes of LFIT Anatomic CoCr V40TM Femoral Heads manufactured prior to 2011.
