Overview
Joseph Flannery joined Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP in April 2025 and previously worked at Reminger and The Becker Law Firm. He graduated from The University of Texas School of Law in 2018 and joined Spangenberg with expertise in personal injury litigation with a focus on medical malpractice cases.
Joe started out as a plaintiff lawyer before moving to the defense side. Having experience on both sides of the courtroom, he brings valuable knowledge to his practice as a plaintiff lawyer at Spangenberg. As a defense attorney, he represented doctors and hospitals facing medical malpractice suits related to emergency medicine, obstetrics, and surgery. As a plaintiff lawyer, he has represented patients facing catastrophic birth injuries, the overprescription of opioids, and medication errors, one of which caused the death of a three-year-old child.
Joe is driven by the opportunity to represent families as they go through some of the most difficult experiences in their lives. He understands that beyond giving his clients a sense of justice, his work can help them understand what happened to themselves and their loved ones.
“I’m proud to continue the work of bringing justice to so many individuals and families through my work with Spangenberg,” Joe said.

Outside of the Courtroom
When Joe is not fighting for his clients, he and his wife, Caitlyn, travel across the country to attend college football and basketball games. Each year, they visit family in Indiana, where they attend a Notre Dame game, and in Michigan, where they watch a University of Michigan game. In 2024, they went to the College Football Playoff National Championship game in Houston to watch the University of Michigan win against the University of Washington. Closer to home, they’re huge Cleveland sports fans. They live in Bay Village with their dog, Ivy.
