Raised Computer Floor Collapses Causing Injury To Young Woman

A woman who worked as a software programmer suffered a severe nerve injury to her back at work after falling through a 30 year old raised computer floor that collapsed as she walked upon it.

The woman who was represented by Spangenberg personal injury attorney, Stuart Scott, was the victim of a dangerous raised computer floor that had been improperly repaired with floor tiles that were unsuitable for the original raised floor system. Because the client’s employer was immune from all civil responsibility, the case proceeded against the property management company who provided the client’s employer with several used replacement tiles obtained from an outside contractor. The Defendant management company provided these tiles to the client’s employer so that the employer could install them in the floor to replace worn out and missing original floor tiles. The Plaintiff alleged that these used tiles were defective and did not fit into the flooring system as designed, which caused the floor to “rack out of square.” Once the floor was out of square, it became susceptible to collapse. The Defendant denied that it supplied improper tiles and blamed the collapse or the employer’s failure to properly maintain the computer floor and the age of the floor itself.

The Plaintiff suffered nerve damage to her lower back that resulted in dystonia of both feet/ankles. The Plaintiff’s injuries required her to wear special orthotic shoes to prevent her feet from continuing their inward rotation. She also required the use of forearm crutches to walk more than short distances.

The case settled confidentially at mediation.
