Biography

Attorney Brendan Heil is a strong addition to our trusted legal team at Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP. A dedicated advocate with an insatiable work ethic and relentless pursuit of justice, he is an invaluable asset to his clients, colleagues, and community. He previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Russ Kendig, Chief Judge for Northern District of Ohio Bankruptcy Court and also worked at a boutique litigation firm in Cleveland, Ohio.

Proud to be born and raised in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood, Brendan is an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians fan. He also enjoys watching soccer, as well as playing basketball and tennis.

Education
  • Brendan earned his J.D. in 2014 from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. It was during this time he worked as the Senior Editor of the Cleveland State Law Review, and earned the Robert D. Kensey Memorial Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Civil Rights. He also won the CALI Award in Constitutional Law. As part of the Cleveland Marshall Trial Team, Brendan earned a spot as a Regional Semifinalist in the 2013 AAJ Mock Trial Competition. He also wrote “Striking a Balance: Why Ohio’s Felony-Arrestee DNA Statute is Unconstitutional and Ripe for Legislative Revision”, which was published in the 61 Clev. St. L. Rev. 529 (2014).
  • In 2014, Brendan simultaneously graduated from the Maxine Goodman College of Urban Affairs of Cleveland State University, earning his M.P.A. with a Certificate in Economic Development.
  • Brendan obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Classical Civilizations and History from Ohio University in 2009. He was able to do so with a full-tuition presidential scholarship, and graduated with honors, Cum Laude. In college, he was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity.
