Ethex Recall Morphine Sulfate Pain Pills Risk of Injury or Death

Consumers of certain morphine sulfate tablets may suffer severe injuries or even death as the result of a drug manufacturing error, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. See press release about the Ethex recall on the FDA website here.

Possible Morphine Overdose Lawsuits

The producer of the pain medication, Ethex Corporation, recently acknowledged that some of its pills are double the size they should be. The mistake has put a class of customers at risk for catastrophic overdose.

Ethex initially issued a limited recall, targeting only its 60 mg tablets (white pill with “60” etched on one side and an “E” on the other side). But the company has since expanded the morphine sulfate recall, withdrawing its 30 mg tablets from the market as well. Both products were distributed between April 16 and April 27, 2008.

Narcotic Pain Pills - Morphine Overdose Symptoms

Morphine sulfate is a Schedule II narcotic pain pill in the opiate family and is used for pain management. The warning signs of a morphine overdose include:

• difficulty breathing
• drowsiness
• nausea
• vomiting
• slow heart rate
