Overview
Michael A. Hill joined Spangenberg, Shibley and Liber LLP as an attorney in 2011. Michael graduated magna cum laude from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2011, where he served as Contributing Editor of the Law Review. Michael has long had an interest in constitutional law and the protection of civil rights. As Editor of the Law Review, Michael was fortunate to publish The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act: The Need for A Whistleblower Exception, 61 Case W. Res. L. Rev. 649 (2011) and United States v. Fullmer and The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act: “True Threats” to Free Speech, 61 Case W. Res. L. Rev. 981 (2011), each of which concerns the appropriate First Amendment scrutiny that should be applied to content-based regulations of speech and symbolic conduct in particular settings.
Prior to joining the firm as an attorney, Michael worked at Spangenberg, Shibley & Liber as a law clerk. During his time with the firm, Michael has gained valuable, firsthand experience in state and federal civil rights litigation and has actively participated in cases involving police excessive force, deprivation of medical care to prisoners and pretrial detainees, and violations of the Ohio and Federal Civil Rights Act, including suits involving sex and gender, age, and disability discrimination.
In addition to vigorously advocating on behalf of his clients, Michael is a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Ohio Association for Justice, and the American Association for Justice.
